Foster
Fosters are the heart and soul of rescue; without loving foster homes, we would not have the ability to take in animals from shelters, the streets, and surrendering owners and subsequently successfully provide them with loving homes.
This is because fosters provide an important transition for a dog (or cat) between a chaotic and unstable past environment and the stable and loving home environment into which they are waiting to move. In addition to caring for their foster pet during recovery from any necessary medical procedures, foster parents teach their foster pets about proper behavior and manners. Many, though not all, foster pets have come from homes where they were not properly socialized or trained, and the foster parent can work to correct any negative tendencies and increase the pet’s adoptability.
Foster parents also provide a unique window into the personality, needs, and habits of their foster pets, and this information is critical in pairing the pet with a home that will be permanent.
August Dog Rescue covers all medical bills of foster pets and promotes them for adoption through emails and our website. In addition to providing August Dog Rescue with the pictures and details of their foster pet which are necessary to promote adoption, foster parents are also responsible for providing food as well as much needed love, attention, and stability for their foster pet. Foster parents are asked to attend adoption events and are asked to transport their foster pet to and from any needed veterinary appointments at August Dog Rescue’s approved vets. Foster parents are also encouraged to participate in the adoption process of their foster pet, as they ultimately know the needs of their foster pet better than anyone!
