ADOPTION PROCESS

August Dog Rescue’s adoption process begins first with the adoption application.  By gaining an understanding of the applicant’s home, other pets, and general environment, we can  determine whether the potential match is a good one before setting up a “meet & greet.” The next step is a personal meeting, which can be at the foster’s home, applicant’s home, or a neutral setting (like a park).

Once the foster pet and adoptive family are determined to be a good match, and the applicant opts to move forward with the adoption, a home visit (to check the security of the fence, etc) and an adoption contract (stating that the adopter will return the dog to August Dog Rescue if the adoption doesn’t work out, etc) must be completed.  An adoption fee of $150 is requested, every dollar of which goes towards paying our vet bills.  This is the basic amount for which we can get a dog altered, vaccinated, chipped, and vetted, though many dogs in our program have medical issues that cost hundred and even thousands more than the adoption fee.

Above all, August Dog Rescue strives to create loving and lasting matches between dogs and adoptive families.  For this reason we have certain requirements – we require that dogs be kept on heartworm prevention and be kept as indoor pets, for example.  Please understand that all of our requirements and procedures are in place in an effort to create the most ideal homes for the animals in our care.
